National Boer War Memorial Association Open Request

** Memorial opening and availability of special 'Descendant' & 'In Memory' Boer War medallions **

In 2012 the Reserve Forces Day Council of Australia will commemorate the 23,000 men and women who served and the 1,000 who gave their lives during the Boer War which is the national theme fo Reserve Forces Day 2012 parades and celebrations throughout Australia. This will support our plans to build a memorial in ANZAC parade Canberra. More Australians died in that war than in all the other wars Australians have fought in except WW1 & 2. However there is no memorial in the nations capitol to recognise their sacrifice.

On the 31st of May 2012 it will be 110 years since the signing of the peace treaty Vereeniging in South Africa, thereby ending the Boer War. Peace had come after 32 weary months to conclude the first of the modern wars. Australia's colonies had been formed into a Federation in 1901 while the war was still being fought. Australian troops fought beside Kiwis and established the first ANZAC tradition as well as the term "Diggers".

For more information on this historic event, or to apply for a  special 'Descendant' or 'In Memory' Boer War medallion please go to www.rfd.org.au.

Unsure if you are a descendant? See http://www.bwm.org.au/site/Ancestor_Search.asp or contact David Deasey david.deasey@bwm.org.au
