Taxes bring uncertainty to the mining industry

Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd was sworn in as a Member of the 43rd. Parliament on Tuesday 28 September and immediately attacked the Labor/Greens/Independents alliance for immediately raising the issue of a further impost on Central Queensland Industry through the introduction of a Carbon Tax, which is now being disguised as a Carbon Charge.

“The electorate of Flynn will be the most affected by the Mining Resources Rent Tax and now the Carbon Tax.

Just one week before the election both the Prime Minister and the Treasurer ruled out a carbon tax and now they are hell bent on introducing these debilitating taxes.

These taxes bring uncertainty to the mining industry and associated businesses at a time when they need to be getting on with planning for the future.

Despite the State and Federal Governments claiming Central Queensland is in boom times we have seen several Central Queensland small to medium businesses being forced into receivership in the past two months.  These business closures will have a ripple effect on Central Queensland for years to come.

It is time for the Federal Government to remove the uncertainty surrounding Federal Environmental approvals required by the LNG Industry so these companies can plan for the future with confidence.  These companies cannot operate in a void.  Mr. O’Dowd said.

ELECTRICITY TAX NOW A CERTAINTY AS GILLARD COMMITTEE PROCESS CORRUPTED
Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd has said that Julia Gillard has corrupted her own climate change committee process by pre-determining the outcome and demanding it work to avoid scrutiny at the next election.

“Reports reveal that the Prime Minister wants to push through legislation for a carbon tax in the hope that people will have forgotten that it was her that pushed up power prices.

If Julia Gillard and her Green-dominated committee get their way, Australians will have a new electricity tax impost locked in stone next year.  It will be a tax founded on a broken election promise.

Every time Julia Gillard and her cheer squad talk about a “carbon price” they are really talking about pushing up electricity prices”,  Mr. O’Dowd said.

Another example of being "out of control"? Perhaps we should consider a Certificate of Sanity and a degree in politics for all MP's and at least a PhD for those aspiring to Premiership or Priministership (easier to just say dictator?)

She, the Greens and those twisted independents have to go. But Ken, what can the LNP offer? If you are the same as they are in State government then we don't have a choice but to fire everyone and put me in charge.

The way i see it all of you pollies are starting at the wrong end.! Get the infastructure there first,( health roads education and planning), gladstone has to be one of the worst planned after thought towns on the east coast and i cant see it getting any better with the boom catch cry and the huge influx of flyins. As for small business theyll never compete with massive wages on offer from multinational companies in the resources boom just check the rental costs in mining towns grocerey prices and so on this area will no longer be able to sustain pensioners as they will not be able to afford the rates to live here $5000 a year on the boyne river and we battle just to get the grass cut from council . so you see not every body works for lng and the likes but they will all have to pay the price of the so called boom.

Imposing a carbon dioxide tax on Australian industry will have as little effect on the climate as revenue rising by the police for speeding will have on crime, which is zero.

This is an ill-conceived monumental “Green” money shuffling impost, achieving absolutely nothing. Even the two paid government
scaremongers, Flattery and Garnaut have publicly admitted to that much. But why is carbon dioxide, which is not a pollutant taxed, yet carbon monoxide a toxic pollutant from the exhausts of vehicles is not? This doesn’t make any sense to me, does it to you?

Why doesent the government look after its poulation before it spends on other countries. We in Gladstone mostly have to go to Brisbane for major surgery 600klm away is like going from England to Poland, I have spent $20,000 in 20 years on teeth and they are still not right, the free dentist told me if you want a plate that is not an emergency there is a 5 year waiting list in Gladstone and a 7 year one in Bunderberg, now we have the old woodpecker prime minister, speding Millions on the carbon debate while the residents of Gladstone pay big rate with no desent mendical and dental system.
